IGP: We're looking for VIP over death of Jong-nam

20 March 2017, 02:15 | Taylor George

The possession of strong nuclear weapons is "the only way" to ultimately put North Korea-US relations in order and "absolute collateral" for peace and security on the Korean Peninsula, the paper said.

North Korea had conducted a test of a new high-thrust engine at its rocket launch station and leader Kim Jong Un said the successful test marked "a new birth" of its rocket industry, the North's official media reported on Sunday.

"If the North carries out a flight test of its new rocket, the most likely time is next month, which includes the 105th anniversary of the birth of Kim Il-sung on March 15 and the 85th anniversary of the establishment of the North Korean army on March 25", said Kim Chang-soo, director of research at the Korea National Strategy Institute.

The US President told reporters on Air Force One that the dictator is "acting very, very badly" after the test was conducted while US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was visiting the continent.

North Korea is banned by the United Nations from conducting long-range missile tests, but it claims its satellite program is for peaceful use, a claim many in the USA and elsewhere believe is questionable.

When asked about potential military action, Tillerson said the USA would prefer to avoid an armed conflict with North Korea.
