FIA puts alleged spot-fixers on ECL

Misbah participates in Grade-II domestic tournament

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan asked the FIA to carry out a thorough investigation against the five players.

It said that during the meeting, FIA officials told the minister that on Monday two cricketers, Khalid Latif and Mohammad Irfan, recorded their statements while the remaining accused cricketers will record their statements on Tuesday.

The FIA said it had asked the Pakistan Cricket Board to also provide them with laptops of the players as their mobile phones to be scrutinised for forensic evidence related to the spot-fixing case in Pakistan Super League.

In a letter, FIA asked the ministry to prevent the tainted players from travelling overseas till the investigation is completed.

Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Irfan and Shahzaib Hasan have been provisionally suspended from all forms of cricket for violating the Pakistan Cricket Board's anti-corruption code. Jamshed is still in Britain, where he was first arrested as part of investigation into alleged corruption in the PSL. Hasan and Sharjeel are scheduled to record their statements to FIA officials tomorrow.

Tkachuk has been a force in his rookie season for Calgary, racking up 13 goals and 46 points while playing on the top line. Following his penalty on Sunday night, Tkachuk has 96 penalty minutes on the season, which ranks him eighth in the league.

The cellular phones and other data of these players have also been handed over to FIA who will investigate the mobile data and applications. The FIA has no treaty with England that allows it to bring Jamshed back to Pakistan for investigation.

The interior minister in his last media talk had stated that FIA would continue with the PSL spot fixing inquiry irrespective of the fact the PCB was reluctant to probe the case through the agency.

Meanwhile, PCB has announced that the three members of the Anti-Corruption Tribunal tasked with adjudicating the spot-fixing matter on Monday issued notices to PCB, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif to hold a preliminary hearing on Friday March 24 from 11:30am at the National Cricket Academy, Lahore.

According to the PCB rules, the player who receives spot-fixing offer has to immediately report to Anti-Corruption Unit of PCB.
