North Korea's test of a rocket engine Sunday showed "meaningful" signs of progress, according to South Korean officials.

Trump also said he had "meetings on North Korea", but did not specify with whom or what was discussed.

North Korea on Monday blasted the US administration for pressurising Pyongyang with threatening remarks when US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson visited Asia recently.

It added that in July a year ago, an air shipment of North Korean military communications equipment bound for Eritrea had been intercepted, and the seized equipment included 45 boxes of battlefield radios and accessories labelled "Glocom".

North Korea conducted a ground test of a new rocket engine thrust system that analysts fear could be another ominous sign of its nuclear ballistic missile ambitions.

Earlier this month, North Korea fired off four ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan, reportedly reaching within 120 miles of Japan's shoreline.

SK Group's executives summoned over corruption scandal with ex president
Park has stayed in her private home in a southern district of Seoul since she vacated the presidential Blue House on Sunday night. The Samsung Group, South Korea's largest conglomerate, is already embroiled in the scandal and its head, Jay Y.

It said: 'The Korean People's Army will reduce the bases of aggression and provocation to ashes with its invincible Hwasong rockets tipped with nuclear warheads and reliably defend the security of the country and its people's happiness in case the United States and the south Korean puppet forces fire even a single bullet at the territory of the DPRK'.

"[We] will have to closely monitor how the rocket engine will be used down the road", the Seoul official was quoted as telling reporters by local news agency Yonhap.

The estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was murdered on February 13, when Malaysian police say two women - an Indonesian and a Vietnamese - smeared super toxic VX nerve agent on his face at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. "China has done little to help", said the US President. "If they elevate the threat of their weapons program to a level that we believe requires action, then [the military] option's on the table".

The report added that Kim Jong-un declared Saturday as the "March 18th revolution" in recognition of the test, and indicated that the new engine was for long-range missiles. What happens if Kim is defeated in a military confrontation with South Korea and the U.S.? He stressed that five-party talks without North Korea were unlikely to yield a result.

North Korea then barred nine Malaysians - three diplomats and their six family members - from leaving the country, prompting Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak to describe the action as "hostage" taking.

Repeating its regular claim that it needs nuclear and missile weapons for self-defence, the statement said the United States would not "frighten" Pyongyang.
