Both Parties Prepare for Gorsuch Hearing Battle

As Judge Gorsuch said in his speech accepting the nomination to the Supreme Court, "A judge who likes every outcome he reaches is very likely a bad judge".

But the record reveals Judge Gorsuch is far from that, finding him to be far to the right on almost every issue.

Foreshadowing the partisan fight that will break out during Judge Neil Gorsuch's impending Supreme Court confirmation hearing, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham, R-S.C., a frequent Trump foil who predicted Republican unity on the matter and an easy victory for the president following the string of controversies that Trump has wrought since he took office.

"Judge Gorsuch poses a significant threat to the LGBT community".

"It's unclear exactly where he [Gorsuch] falls on the spectrum among conservative justices, but he certainly would fall on the conservative side of the line", said University of California, Irvine law professor Rick Hasen.

In his 2006 book The Future of Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia, for example, Gorsuch rejected the case for legalizing assisted suicide on the grounds that "human life is fundamentally and inherently valuable, and the taking of human life by private persons is always wrong".

Another point of contention is the question of Gorsuch's decision in the Hobby Lobby case, where the Supreme Court decided an employer's religious objections trumped their employees, and thus, employers were not required to provide insurance coverage for contraception due to Hobby Lobby's "pro-life" views. Then, of course, he stacked his Cabinet with hard-right, anti-government billionaires from places like Exxon Mobil and Goldman Sachs. "If they're really thinking through this particular issue, they may not want a judge who's going to defer to a [Scott] Pruitt-held EPA as he starts undoing things that the Obama Administration did", McGarity explains.

Budget office slams GOP plan
These enrollment numbers are dramatically different than the CBO's forecasted enrollment numbers in 2013. But costs by 2026 would remain some 20 to 25 percent higher for people age 55 to 64, CBO said.

Oakland Raiders Considering Marshawn Lynch
Seahawks general manager John Schneider and Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie worked together in the Green Bay Packers' front office. Although he retired after the 2015 season, it would still require a trade with Seattle or a release to complete the deal.

What to Look for in the Gorsuch Confirmation Hearings
That is exactly what Judge Gorsuch has done in several thousand cases he has heard on the 10th Circuit. Many progressives lament Democratic senators have been distracted by other ideological fights.

"They're bootstrapping off of this debate about Chevron and trying to draw parallels between his skepticism about Chevron and the so-called progressive agenda to protect 'the little guy, '" says Leo. The hearing comes at the end of more than a.

Just four days before Gorsuch appears before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Democratic groups and committees have barely lifted an advertising finger in their quest to sink the nomination. "We're going to hopefully pass him out of the judiciary committee the week of March 20", Graham told show host John Catsimatidis.

The House Democrats' letter pointed to poll results indicating that 90 percent of voters believed a new Supreme Court justice should "be open to limiting the influence of big money in our politics". Republicans have only 52 members in the upper chamber, so they would need eight Democrats to cross the aisle and vote with them. Dianne Feinstein, the respective chair and ranking member on the committee. "But we have a constitutional duty to do". Former Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter recently co-wrote an op-ed in support of Gorsuch.

"Judge Gorsuch's opinions in the Chevron area do reflect the trajectory of the [Supreme] Court's jurisprudence", Leo says, "which is to say, a growing concern about overreach by the administrative state and a lack of separation of powers". "It's a sentiment you hear expressed right across the political spectrum".

Judge Gorsuch unflinchingly does what is right.

If any of them was to be replaced by a conservative similar to Gorsuch, the court would have a firm 6-3 conservative majority, possibly for decades.
