Versace will begin production in April in Los Angeles and Miami for a 2018 premiere.

Penelope Cruz has been cast as Donatella Versace in a television series examining the 1997 assassination of designer Gianni Versace, according to reports.

We already knew that Lady Gaga won't be playing Donatella Versace in American Crime Story Season 3, but now we know who will: Oscar victor Penelope Cruz will portray the fashion executive and designer on Ryan Murphy's series, People confirmed. Versace: American Crime Story is the third installment of the award-winning limited series from executive producers Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. In her USA television debut, Cruz will star opposite previously casted stars Edgar Ramirez and Darren Criss as designer Gianni Versace and serial killer Andrew Cunana, respectively.

Versace, from Fox 21 and FX Prods., is based on the book Vulgar Favors by Vanity Fair writer Maureen Orth.

It will not air until after series two, which will focus on Hurricane Katrina and is slated to debut in 2018.

She has also been a muse for Pedro Almodovar, starring in some of his best work like 2006's Volver.
