Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

Given the amount of time that Xiaomi takes to develop its phones (the Mi 5, for example), we're not holding our breath for the announcement of this new handset.

Xiaomi is now working on the successor of the innovative bezel less device which has enjoyed a large degree of popularity among tech enthusiasts, as it was confirmed by their CEO Lei Jun.

We can expect Xiaomi to work on multiple prototypes of the Mi MIX successor before deciding on the final product. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is believed to be launched around the third quarter of this year and it has tech enthusiasts waiting for yet another innovative device which Xiaomi has used us with. He did, however, confirm that the company would again partner with French designer Philippe Starck for the Mi MIX sequel, as it did with the original.

Nothing much is now known about the Mi Mix II in terms of specs except for some rumors that Xiaomi is aiming for a 93% screen-to-body ratio this time, and is working on a design where-in the device's front is entirely covered with display.

The Mi Mix's successor is likely to retain a similar screen-to-body ratio while improving the screen quality.

What made the Mi Mix unique - apart from almost non-existent bezels - was the use of Elliptic Labs' ultrasound technology to replace the proximity sensor on the front of the screen. The device has a new ultrasonic proximity sensor hidden behind the display.

The Mi Mix is also Xiaomi's first phone with soft keys. It replaces the traditional infrared proximity sensor found on a majority of smartphones.

For photography, the smartphone comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF, and EIS.
