She deemed Beyoncé's Lemonade more deserving than her album 25 in the category.

Adele - who took home five Grammy Awards on Sunday - said she had anxious her heart-wrenching global mega hit Hello would be a flop.

Adele made it pretty clear that winning the award for Album of the Year at the Grammys didn't necessarily sit well with her, because for Adele, Lemonade was the obvious victor.

Just over a year after his death, David Bowie has racked up the most Grammy Award wins of any artist this year.

"I'm very humbled and very grateful and gracious, but the artist of my life is Beyoncé", Adele said. We all got to see a different side of you that you don't usually let us see. You are our light.

Speaking during a backstage press conference, Adele told reporters: "I feel like it was [Beyoncé's] time to win".

Beyonce was left in tears. But she received flak for doing so.

Adele beat out the "Formation" singer for album of the year, record of the year, and song of the year. You'd be hard-pressed to find a person out there who hasn't gotten this tune stuck in their head for at least a few days this past year, as it was pretty much ubiquitous. Despite breaking her trophy into two, Adele didn't seem to be sad as she kept smiling on stage.

But before Adele's big wins were declared, it was Beyonce time.

Beyoncé - who looked stunning and performed a dramatic set earlier in the evening - did not go home empty-handed.

Chance The Rapper was deemed Best New Artist and his CD Coloring Book won for Best Rap Album.

"My intent was to congratulate Adele on her incredible night at the Grammies", he wrote on Facebook Tuesday (Feb. 14).

After hitting her last high notes, Adele gave her son a shout out ("Hello, baby!") and jokingly wiped her brow.

"Winning a TV award doesn't christen me successful".
