SC gets 5 new judges, strength swells up to 28

Supreme Court gets five more judges strength rises to 28

Five Supreme Court Judges took oath on February 17, after their induction, now the total number of judges in the Supreme Court are 28 which is 3 less than the maximum number.

Chennai: Madras High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, who was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court, said senior lawyers have a bounden duty to provide leadership in the bar and give opportunities to youngsters.

The top court will soon have three more vacancies as Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, Chief Justice Khehar and Justice Prafulla C Pant would retire this year. He has been serving on the bench of the court as permanent judge since March 2003.

Justice Menon is among 10 judges cleared for the post of chief justice of various high courts.
