She has also requested for a helper to get her home-cooked food in jail citing health reasons and has also requested for mineral water and hot water to be made available to her 24×7. Her death sentence was turned into a life term.

"The one for cot may be considered, but that too after doctors' inspection", sources said.

As prisoner no 9234, Ms Sasikala - who drove straight to Benguluru on Wednesday from Chennai's sprawling Poes Garden bungalow that she shared for many years with former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa - merits no special treatment.

"Chinnamma could not sleep well and was restless as she had to sleep on the floor in a 10x8 feet ordinary cell in the women's barracks", the AIADMK's Karnataka unit secretary, V Pugazhendhi, told reporters.

In a replay of October 2014 when she accompanied 'Amma'to the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison on the outskirts of the Bengaluru City, Sasikala surrendered on Wednesday towards the evening amidst tight security-only to be surprised by the spring of protesters raising slogans against her. She has been convicted in a case of disproportionate assets along with her sister-in-law Elavarasi, and did not have a good "second" start in the jail. However she reportedly refused to consume it and had milk instead. "I will walk any distance", said Ms Sasikala, the Bangalore Mirror reports.

Earlier, as she arrived in Bengaluru, police jeeps were sent to escort Sasikala to prison.

She will be in jail for three years and about 11 months out of the four years sentence awarded by the trial court, DG (Prisons) Sathyanarayana Rao. She picked loyalist E Palanisamy for Chief Ministerial candidate, and brought back two nephews who had been expelled by Jayalalithaa in 2011.

Ms Sasikala, along with Ms Jayalalithaa, had spent almost a month in the same Bangalore prison in 2014 before being let out on bail.
