Kremlin denies any disappointment with Trump administration

17 February 2017, 05:55 | Taylor George

The Kremlin said on Friday it was not disappointed by how U.S. -Russia ties were developing under U.S. President Donald Trump and that it would only be possible to assess the outlook for relations once the leaders of both countries had met.

Flynn had been targeted to harm "Russia-US relations, undermining confidence in the new US administration", said Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the lower committee on global affairs in Russia's parliament, to Russian state newswire TASS.

Moscow believes that "Russia-U.S. ties are important for our two nations and the entire global community, so we believe that they deserve special attention", Peskov said in a conference call with reporters.

He claimed that Russian Federation past year thwarted the activity of more than 400 foreign special agents, but did not give details.

As someone who very much feared the kind of "grand bargain" Mr. Putin and some supposed "realists" in the US want because it would betray not only America's friends around the world but also American principles, the author of these lines will be very pleased if no such deal is ever possible as long as an aggressive dictator remains in power in Moscow.

Pence aiming to reassure allies at start of Trump presidency
Reports indicated that Flynn misled Vice President Mike Pence about his contacts with the Russian ambassador to the United States. He then travels to Brussels to meet with European Union leaders.

Trump's administration is now facing criticism over reports of its ties to Moscow - which follow allegations from the United States intelligence community that Putin ordered a hacking and influence campaign to help get Trump elected.

"We are not in a position right now to collaborate on a military level".

In November President Trump praised his Russian counterpart for being "very smart" for not engaging in a tit-for-tat row with the USA after the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats accused of spying.

The Kremlin said on Wednesday, however, that the report was not based on any facts.
